Praise for Luther conduct at Dave Matthews concert

To the Editor:

I want to publicly thank the Student Activities Council, Trish Neubauer and Brad Phillips for the incredible amount of energy that went into preparations for the Dave Matthews concert last Saturday night. Concert chairs Drew DeWitt and Trevin Goin worked closely with other SAC members, student groups, the box office and CFL staff, to ensure a great concert. Further, the concert would not have been possible without the technical support from Tom Henning and Kendall Thompson. Students probably do not realize the amount of "behind-the-scene" work demanded by such a big-name concert.

As the concert date approached, everyone associated with it was nervous about the scheduling itself, the ticket process, load-in and the various details to be done. Dave's agent emailed us about the obnoxious fans at some of his recent concerts. We hoped that our concert would reflect the excellent environment that Dave Matthews remembered from his last visit three years ago. After that concert, we were told that he loved performing in the CFL Main Hall and especially appreciated the audience.

Once again, Luther students came through! I stopped in at the concert around 9:30 to see how it was going. I stood in the back, watching almost 1500 students at an awesome concert where the artist was obviously enjoying the banter with students between songs, and appreciating the complete silence during the songs. This is exactly why Dave Matthews, and so many other performers, like to perform here. My sincere thanks goes to you students-you make Luther the incredible place it is!
