Because of the brisk sales, based growers' cooperative is increasing production of its white cranberry juice. As production increases, growers will be asked to harvest more of the white berries each year, Phillips said. Farmers who harvest the white berries receive financial incentives from Ocean Spray, so the increased production of white cranberry juice should help some growers' bottom line, Phillips said.

Agency Brokerage Spark DEP Commissioner Bradley M. Campbell called the agreement "a strong and effective settlement because it ensures that this large, environmentally significant parcel will be restored to its original condition."

The white cranberries are harvested roughly three weeks earlier than usual, before they turn the traditional crimson color. "For us, it's worth doing, " said Joe Darlington, an Ocean Spray grower who is harvesting white cranberries on his farm in Pemberton Township.

Business Broker DeMarco did not obtain appropriate permits before converting the wetlands in Woodland, Burlington County, in 1998, Campbell noted. The state agency initially sought a fine of $594,000 from the firm.
