NOTICE: San Francisco NOOD

Dear San Francisco NOOD Skippers:

During the past fourteen years Sailing World has partnered with the St. Francis Yacht Club to bring the NOOD Regatta to San Francisco and the Bay Area. The St. Francis Yacht Club Race Committee, the club's sailing office and particularly its core group of volunteers, have worked very hard with us here at Sailing World to make the NOOD happen year after year. That's why it is with great difficulty that we relay the following decision.

The Sailing Company, publishers of Sailing World, and World Publications LLC, our owners, have decided to discontinue bringing the NOOD Regatta to the St. Francis Yacht Club, effective this year. We came to this decision after much consideration and with great reluctance, as the San Francisco NOOD, started in 1991, is one of our oldest events. However, for a number of years, San Francisco has been the smallest NOOD compared to the others we hold around the country. Both the St.FYC and Sailing World have worked very hard to make this event grow and unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, it has not. We recognize that one-design racing and regattas in the Bay Area have changed over the years, and we know that there are other good events in which most classes can race. The St. Francis Yacht Club has informed us that they will continue to host a regatta on that traditional Labor Day weekend. Please contact their Sailing Office or web site for more information.

All of us at Sailing World greatly appreciate your support and participation in the San Francisco NOOD Regattas. In addition, we are grateful for the hospitality and enthusiasm that has been extended to all of us by so many flag officers and members of the St. Francis Yacht Club and by the club's sailing office. Jennifer Davies, our event manager joins me along with the rest of the NOOD crew in wishing you a great sailing season in 2004.
