Homecoming and Family Weekend Begins Thursday
Falls crisp temperatures and colorful foliage arrived in Burlington this week just in time for UVMs Homecoming and Family Weekend. This years edition begins Thursday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m. and continues 40 separate events later though 3 p.m. Sunday.
Among the festivities:
- The Rewards and Challenges of Joining a Family Business, hosted by the UVM Family Business Initiative. The featured speaker will be Thomas D. Davidow, UVM parent 02, and co-founder of Genus Resources LLC, one of the countrys leading family-business consulting firms. Friday, 3-5 p.m., 225 Kalkin Hall.
- Department of Musics 75th Anniversary Homecoming Concert, featuring the university orchestra, band, jazz band and concert choir. A highlight of this free concert will be the premiere of Professor Thomas Reads 75th anniversary work for mixed chorus and orchestra: Friday, 7:30 p.m., Ira Allen Chapel.
- Fifth Annual Homecoming Parade. The parade will start at Waterman and make its way down College Street to Homecoming Fest on the Church Street Marketplace. Sponsored by the Student Homecoming Committee: Saturday, noon. The best place to watch is on the main Green or along College Street, but better yet, join in.
- Gala Anniversary Concert. The Burlington Choral Society will join the UVM orchestra and chorus under the direction of Professor David Neiweem. Tickets, Campus Ticket Store, 656-3085: Sunday, Ira Allen Chapel.
